ON HOLIDAY WITH IMOLA TECNICA

Have you ever chosen Lignano Sabbiadoro and its golden beach as your holiday destination, or even just to spend a weekend out of town? You probably don’t know that you could come across a building that bears our unmistakable signature not far from the sea.
In fact, the staff at Imola Tecnica was recently involved in the renovation project of a building located right in this renowned tourist location; a site that, given the current regulations in Friuli Venezia Giulia, was also subjected to stringent verification by the competent authorities.
The reason? Because the property in question is just a few hundred metres from the sea and, above all, on terrain with a high sand content.

Given these circumstances, the work could not overburden (from a weight perspective) the supporting structure; using a ventilated facade system with an aluminium structure turned out to be the most suitable solution to give the building incomparable lightness, strength and durability.
In greater detail, the goal of our intervention was to redevelop the “Croce del Sud” building, both aesthetically and by improving its thermal insulation; so, through the answers to the questions we put to the designer, let’s see why he decided to involve us and choose our product.

Interview with Architect Davide Codognotto

In an urban environment such as Lignano Sabbiadoro, what challenges did designing this building bring?

The building in question is located in the central street of the municipality of Lignano Sabbiadoro, and is therefore subject to the landscaping commission’s approval. Moreover, since the work was not for a new building, but to restore a building dating back to the ’50s, we encountered difficulties during the work, including structural consolidation problems and adapting the project to site issues. This created a real race against time to meet the deadlines that a tourist town like this imposes. In fact, in addition to the site closure scheduled for the summer, the client also required us to complete the site for the Easter holidays.

What solutions were considered for the facade?

The existent facade was simply rendered and painted, so the building had become out of context when compared to neighbouring buildings. That is why I decided to adopt a more modern solution, and specifically to use a ventilated facade that gives the building a cleaner and more attractive appearance.

What convinced you to adopt Imola Tecnica’s ventilated system?

The need to redevelop the building from an energy perspective, to achieve a pleasant aesthetic effect that suited the client’s needs, and to put it up in a very short time.

Can you briefly describe the benefits you identified in the adopted technical solution?

The benefits found include an improvement in energy performance, the installation speed offered by dry assembly, and the minimal and modern aesthetics that top quality porcelain stoneware slabs offer when combined with the hidden coupling system.

How much does having a partner like Imola Tecnica affect the final outcome of a project?

Imola Tecnica was a good partner to ensure the success of a complex project that had to meet both the aesthetic needs and tight implementation deadlines expressly requested by the client. In fact, through the technical assistance that the staff gave on site, it took care of adapting the constructional solution to the architectural project, as well as the structural calculations and verification, thus providing a turnkey service.
